Durham trio earn medals at the U23 European Rowing Championships

Three Durham students participated for Great Britain and Northern Ireland in the European Rowing Championship from the 26-27th August in Krefeld, Germany.

Evelyna Davies won gold as part of the women’s’ uncoxed four, squeezing out the Romanian quartet by less than a second. An astonishing finish saw the British crew take the lead with only 150m to go. It was to be the only British gold medal in the championships.

Davies was also a member of the U23 World Championship team that claimed fourth place a month ago in Plovdiv.

Two Durham students, Gus John and George Reed, took their seats in the mens’ eight. The crew toiled to fend off a Ukrainian push and claim the silver medal position behind the Romanian boat.
