Durham graduate listed on Forbes 30 under 30 list

By Joshua Hurn

A Durham graduate has been featured on the prestigious Forbes’s 30 under 30 list for Europe. Dr Rebecca Webster, who studied BA Psychology at Van Mildert College, is now listed under the category of Science. This recognises European young people who have made an outstanding contribution to scientific research or discovery.

Webster was awarded the position due to her research into the placebo effect and coronavirus behaviours. Her work has gone on to influence the UK government’s pandemic response. Two of her reviews featured in the WHO’s coronavirus roadmap review.

Now a psychology lecturer at Sheffield University, she previously completed a masters and PhD at King’s College London.

Forbes compiles the list every year to “highlight the young visionary leaders brashly reinventing business and society”. In total, 300 young Europeans are chosen across 12 different industries and 32 different countries.

This is the sixth annual 30 under 30 list. 2021 winners also include Greta Thunberg, Olly Alexander and Lewis Capaldi.

The full results can be viewed online via the Forbes website.

  • I think you mean Dr Rebecca Webster. We’re at university, these titles matter. A PhD does not happen overnight.

Also we’re Durham so why no mention of college? I found it with a quick Google; it’s Mildert, by the way.
