Survey: Racism at UK Universities

By Alex Cupples

Palatinate is collaborating with student newspapers across the country to investigate racism on campus. We have created a short survey that aims to uncover students’ experiences of racism at Durham University, the results of which will be collected with those of other UK universities.

This investigation follows a racist incident in a Warwick University halls of residence. First-year student Faramade Ifaturoti posted a photograph on Twitter showing a bunch of bananas with racial slurs written on them.

This photograph was widely shared on the Internet and the incident has since been reported on by a number of national news outlets.

It has lead to criticisms of the way in which universities deal with racism on campus.

Through a collaborative survey we hope to show how racism affects students at universities across the UK and what actions higher education institutions are taking to eradicate the issue.
