Woman dies in Durham City Centre after falling from Prince Bishops car park

A woman has died in Durham City Centre after falling from a multi-storey car park building.

At 4pm today, emergency services were called to the Elvet Bridge area.

It is believed that the woman had fallen from the Prince Bishops shopping centre car park onto the pavement below.

Paramedics have confirmed that the woman died at the scene. The death is not being treated as suspicious.

The area surrounding the scene has been cordoned off and Elvet Bridge has been temporarily closed.

A spokeswoman for Durham Constabulary said: “We were called at 3.50pm after a woman fell from the Prince Bishops car park.

“She was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Elvet Bridge is currently closed to pedestrians.”

A spokeswoman for North East Ambulance Service also stated: “We were called today at 3.42pm to reports of a person falling from height at the Prince Bishops car park in Durham.

“We dispatched two ambulance crews and they are still at the scene.”
