Durham Fringe Festival returns with almost 300 performances

By Ivan Deverick

Durham Fringe Festival kicks off on 29th July, featuring more shows and performances than ever before.

Now in its sixth iteration, the Fringe will involve five days of the arts onstage.

The 130 shows and almost 300 performances expected throughout the week include theatre, comedy, circus, and more.

“We are so excited to be returning with our most ambitious Fringe Festival to date,” said Festival Manager Maria Baranowska.

“Expect world premieres, works in progress, award-winning touring productions and performances.”

No show will cost over £15 for attendees, according to Baranowska.

Alongside productions from the North East and the United Kingdom, audiences can witness arts from across the world. One example is ‘Lament of the Wandering Head‘, produced by Taiwan-based physical theatre company Sun Son Theatre.

Comedian Harriet Kemsley is set to headline Durham Fringe Festival, and will be featuring new standup material at the Gala Theatre on Saturday night. Kemsley has appeared in ‘8 Out of 10 Cats‘, as well as the first season of ‘LOL: Last One Laughing UK‘, and was the voice behind Nashandra, final boss of video game ‘Dark Souls II’.

Durham Fringe CIC runs the event as a non-profit, volunteer-led organisation.

Tickets can be booked through the Durham Fringe website, where all shows and timings are listed.
