Durham students meet American Solar Challenge
ENGINEERING STUDENTS have produced the only UK entry to the North America Solar Challenge. They have been working since 2004 to create their solar powered car ‘DUSC’ which will now take part in the 2,400-mile race from Dallas to Calgary.
The project is being managed by third year Mechanical Engineering student Ben Derrick who is getting the team ready for the race in July 2008. The car itself can hold one person and reaches a top speed of about 45 mph.
Last week the car was put on display at the Science museum in London where it was part of the Lights, Car, Action exhibition.
