Collingwood B and Grey to contest Cup final
Collingwood B and Grey will compete in the Cup final later this term after recording semi-final victories over Hild Bede and Van Mildert respectively.
In back-to-back games on the rubber crumb at Maiden Castle, Collingwood B first defeated Hild Bede 2-1, followed by a more comprehensive 4-1 win for Grey.
Collingwood B took an early lead through Jezza Talbot, but a second-half equaliser by Tom Spurling looked to be taking the game to penalties.
That was until Vincent Snell’s composed finish in the dying minutes secured his team’s spot in the final.
Grey, who have established themsevles as penalty shootout specialists this year, did the job in 90 minutes against Van Mildert.
They defeated Collingwood A on penalties in the quarter-finals, and a comfortable 4-1 win over Mildert has set up a chance for another victory over their nearest neighbours when they face Collingwood B in the final.
In another intriguing twist to the season, Grey will soon be facing Collingwood A in the final league game of the season – a win or draw for Collingwood would be enough to seal the Premiership title, but another win for Grey would see them scupper Collingwood’s season completely.
