Underwater Ironing Record

30 January 2009

A team of divers from the UK have broken the record for underwater ironing at the bottom of a 173 ft deep flooded quarry in Chepstow. 86 divers managed to iron one piece of linen within the 10 minute time limit, beating the previous record of 72 divers set in Melbourne last year. Each of the divers sunk to the bottom of the quarry with an ironing board, iron and item of linen. The divers were watched by a team of adjudicators who ensured that they started ironing at the same time and finished before the 10 minutes was up. The event was to raise money for the RNLI and raise awareness about the “joys” of underwater ironing.
