The NUS has joined forces with Spotify to offer a discount on the music-streaming service to students, through the NUS Extra scheme.

Holders of the NUS Extra card will now be able to receive a 50% reduction on Spotify Premium, which includes unlimited, advert-free music, and gives users the ability to download playlists and use Spotify on mobile devices.

The NUS President, Liam Burns, commented “It’s brilliant that Spotify will now be offering the biggest discount ever offered through NUS extra.

“This incredibly exciting partnership will make one of our cards top of any student’s must-have lists. I’m glad too that we can promote cost-effective access to a legal source of music.”

The Swedish company, which was founded in 2008, has become a dominant force in the digital music market, with over 10 million users, 18 million tracks and Facebook integration which allows friends to share and view listening habits.

Angela Watts, Vice President of Spotify, said, “We’re very proud to have teamed up with [NUS Extra] to offer students a considerable discount with Spotify Premium. We know that students are on a budget but are also huge music fans.”

The news comes after the release of Spotify’s ‘Play Button’ feature, a competitor of Soundcloud, which allows the embedding of Spotify tracks online. See the feature and listen to Palatinate Music’s revision playlist in all its glory, below.
