England Students, despite the strong contributions of several DURFC stars, lost narrowly to the full Portugal side in Lisbon on Saturday.

Centre Tom Shiel and ex-Palatinate Tom O’Toole played the whole 80 for England, with Josh Beaumont putting in a 60-minute shift and Mike Ward and James Hallam earning 30 minutes and 20 minutes game-time respectively.

O’Toole and Ward each scored a try, but DURFC’s efforts were sadly not enough to prevent an agonising 31-28 loss.

Next up for England is a potentially feisty encounter against Wales Students on February 24 at the Stoop.
